first u connect the ps3 to the digital audio surround sound receiver( to hdmi input of the receiver) then from other other hdmi port of ur surround sound system were it says hdmi output, u connect another hdmi cable from that port to ur hd tv.
This setting will give u 7.1 channel sound output(if u got the right sound system receiver)

HDMI cables carry both VIDEO and AUDIO signals.
All you need to do is plug one end of the HDMI cable to the back of your PS3 and the other end to the HDMI-IN of your TV (provided that you have an HDTV with HDMI-IN capabilities).
As long as your surround sound unit is turned on while playing your PS3, the sound will come out through your surround sound system.
Again, all you need is an HDMI cable for both video and audio.

you have to have HD TV and an hdmi cable
