My 5 year old is addicted to video games and I have no idea what is normal or acceptable. Any advise will be GREATLY appreciated.

I’ve heard that video games can be very beneficial to children. It makes sense to me, but only with certain games. I’ve seen some good answers on here recommending one to two hours a day but I strongly suggest giving him educational games. They make more of them nowadays than they ever had. That’s probably because of my generation who played Mortal Kombat and Doom for six hours every day and now find ourselves fantasizing about tearing out our boss’ spinal chord every time we get pissed off.
about 1 hour maximum per day
im 11 and im alowed only 2 hours
you should only be allowing your son to play educational games at this age
he is developing he cognitive skills and does not need to be playing violent video games
i would only allow an hour a day
unless they are eductional games then i would allow up to 2 hours but not in one sitting
split up the time into intervals
let him play one level then shut off the game
then maybe an hour or 45 mins later let him play the next level
but remember he also needs some exercise as well so playing outside is always good
unless you live where i live and its negative 20 outside
1-1..1/2 of video games daily..no more than 9 hours a week..its a medical fact
i dnk my lil brother 3 n he can go all day wit out gettin bored 2 me their no limit
I would say about 5 hours /week. At such a young age, he is potentially going to develop a short attention span or ADD if he plays too much.
I would be more concerned about the games he plays than how much though.
I’d say that he should be allowed to play video games for no more than 30 minutes per day. Even that may be ‘too much’ and certainly any more time than that could be ‘damaging his brain function’ so perhaps it would be better if you just told him that he’s ‘not allowed’ to play ANY games for the next two months, and then allow him to play only ten minutes a day for the next two months, to see ‘how he does’ …
