3 Stars There is plenty of room for 2010 improvements
First remark: a substantial portion of the “150 games” are in the solitaire section. So the choices are much more limited if you are not looking for solitaire. The graphics are pleasant, although the characters don’t match those on the manual (!), but they are amusing.
I find the cards a little tricky to read. Besides, it’s very confusing (and irritating) that the user cannot re-arrange the hands.
The character design may amuse for a few minutes, as will some of the comments from the other computer players (although sometimes they repeat twice the same thing!).
However, none of the backgrounds allow a better view of the cards (can’t see them flatter, or more spread out).
The major flaw for me (aside from the heavy bias on solitaire) is that I bought this to learn to play new games, so I would have liked to see a “play tutorial” commentary option (right now the commentaries are the kind “player A is thinking” “player B is choosing a card to play” …how exciting…) and help on what would be the better card to play and why. Or why was a particular card a bad card to play.
I have not played on line, it’s nice that it is offered.
It’s OK overall, and good fun for some games, but there is plenty of room for improvement in the 2010 version.
2 Stars 2009 Not So Great
There are no new players, some of the old favorite games are gone, and the new games are nothing special. The biggest issue is the cards. They are waaay too small and too close together. You can’t move or sort them in your hand, and they are too hard to manipulate. This is a major problem considering these are all card games. Disappointing.
1 Star Hoyle Card Game 2009
Hoyle Card Game 2009 I found to be very hard to use and the graphics are awful, the 2008 version is great so I thought the 2009 version would be better it isn’t. The cards are too small and I found it difficult to use. I was fortunate enough to be able to return the product for a refund. I would not recommend this program.
1 Star This game is a joke!!
I upgraded from the 2005 version of this program and I have to say, I wouldn’t do it again.
First of all, I had to reload the program maybe three times on my PC before it would stay loaded and still on occasion it stops working and unless I reboot won’t load.
Also, every other time I do open the program, it stops me to tell me there are updates. I took the first ones, but the last set downloads about half way and then quits and tells me to go to the website to get the updates. It is saying there are 102
If I had a choice, I’d not buy this one, it’s a real pain in the neck imho.
1 Star BIG Disappointment
Hoyle Card Games 2003 is played everyday on our Windows XP home computers but my daughter’s new Vista laptop will not recognise the 2003 version. I bought the 2009 thinking I would surprise her. When we tried to play the games on our computers it is complete disaster. Nothing seemed to work very will and as mentioned before, the upgrade stopped mid download.
