You could go and get the wireless adapter – it just plugs into the back left below your had drive if it is set horizontal, snaps in easily. Or you can run a Ethernet cable from your router to your xbox – try searching cuil.com for more information on the how-to.
No, you do not have to go through finished work to use wired networking. You also do not even need to have to run a long ethernet cable.
