Router is upstairs, top floor. Xbox is in basement. Should I get a wireless adapter for my computer, and move my modem and router to the xbox, or should I get the wireless adapter? And running it through a laptop is not a solution, the connection drops every 5 minutes when I do that. Any other suggestions?

Think of it this way, the xbox 360 wireless adapter is the equivilent of a wireless g adapter and will only be as fast as a g connection can be. A wired connection will be MUCH faster depending upon you broadband service. If you do not do any major gaming or downloading on the computer, I would suggest moving the modem and router near the xbox and using the hard connection to the xbox.
Your not going to like the answer, but its the best possibility for a good connection. You need to buy an extensive amount of ethernet cable and run it through the wall.If the modem is on the top floor and the xbox is in the basement, the wireless adapter will barely be capable of picking up the wifi connection. You will be lagging all over the place. Plus, the wireless adapter and routers will put a huge hole in your pocket. It seems like the ethernet cable would be more difficult, but trust me, its worth it.
The best of your two would be to move the router and modem to the xbox. While a computer sometimes need a fast connection your xbox ALWAYS need the best connection you can give it. Hardwiring is always your best bet. If you don’t care either way this is your best bet. Not to mention it would be cheaper to buy an adapter for your computer then it would be to buy the official xbox wireless adapter. So I would just move the router and modem and buy your computer an adapter.
If at all possible, a wired connection would be ideal for speed and reliability.
Short of that, getting the wireless adapter would be your best option in my opinion.
I would go with the wireless adapter, in your situation. If you don’t like it, return it or sell it and go with moving your modem and router to your XBOX.
u could buy a really long ethernet cablehttp://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.d…
and connect them with a RJ45
