Sony CEO Brushes Off Calls For PS3 Price Cut

Last month, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick stated that his company would reconsider making PS3 games if the console’s price was not reduced. What say you, Sony CEO Howard Stringer?
“[Kotick] likes to make a lot of noise,” said Stringer at the Allen & Co conference in Sun Valley, Idaho (via Yahoo News). “He’s putting pressure on me and I’m putting pressure on him. That’s the nature of business.”
When asked why they weren’t cutting prices, Stringer said, “I (would) lose money on every PlayStation I make — how’s that for logic.”
Will the above statement make people stop pestering him about the price cut? Probably not.

Well they might go down if something big is going to happen like playstation 4 coming out
i heard that sony is planning on lowering the price very soon actually by up to 100 buckss.. in my opinion i would still get an xbox 360
this is pure speculation, but it is rumoured that a cheaper slimmer ps3 sku is coming to market. If sony has cut down manufacturing cost, this will most likely be the cost cutting event possibly with the older fatter sku’s being marked down first to make way for the slimmer cheaper ones.
if you have the money then do it. Its worth it you get a video game system and blue ray player for the price of 1 can’t go wrong with that. I’ve had mine since Nov, and its still worth it.
with the possibility of the ps4 prices should go down by late 2010-2011….maybe that is if it doesnt come out sooner
You wud probably haf 2 wait probably 2 year or so. Game consoles dun make prices lower after a couple of months. srry. gunna have 2 wait a bit longer (actually a lot longer) bye ^_^
it wont go down for now maybe in the next year or two. many analysts are saying that the price will be going down soon but it wont the president of sony computer america have denied these reports repeatedly even yesterday he once again dismissed it. it’s almost impossible at the moment because it takes them $450 to make the ps3 and they are selling it for $400 so they lose $50 for every console that they sell
There are rumors that it may drop sometime in the fall or as early as August. Keyword: rumors. We’ve seen many price drop rumors already this year and it didn’t happen. The fact that Sony denied the rumors recently doesn’t help either.
For now, the price isn’t going to drop. Go ahead and buy one now; they are worth every penny.
While the Playstation 3 is quite expensive already, I wouldn’t be surprised if that price stayed up there until either a new version of the Playstation 3 comes out (with a larger hard drive) or because Microsoft decides to drop their prices on their Xbox 360 Elite. A new version may be coming out for the Christmas season this year, but you never know.
Your best bet is to just get a used Playstation 3 from a game store that sells and trades game systems, games, and accessories. You will save some money and you won’t have to worry about price drops nearly as much. Just make sure that you have them test the system before you purchase it to make sure everything is working and ask if they have some kind of replacement/warranty they offer.
