On almost all sites I’ve seen, people have been reviewing it negatively because of the DRM issues surrounding it and “SecuRom”. This makes it difficult to find an aggregate score that reflects the game itself, because most scores are obviously innaccurate. (An example of this is it’s 1 1/2 star ranking on Amazon. Of the 3,232 reviews, about 200 are about the gameplay).

You can search on google or yahoo, but if I may, I would like to say a quick review.
Spore is a game for casual players, its kind of a turn off if you are a hardcore gamer. Each stage is roughly 1-2 hours long, and the final stage is.. pretty boring. There are 5 stages, which I will tell you about
1. The Cell stage
I personally love this stage, as it is more of a dog-eat-dog type stage. You attack other cells, and eat whatever your cell eats.
2. Creature Stage
Another fun stage. You now advance to land, and you can meet and become friendly with other creatures. Or you can always just destroy them to the other end of the planet. You are able to ‘upgrade’ your creature with various parts found from skeletons and alpha creatures.
3. Tribal Stage
An okay stage, I suppose. It sounds better than it is. You are a tribe of your creature, and you made the first tribe. The goal is to either befriend or destroy the other tribes. There are about 6-8 tribes, I believe.
4. Civilization Stage
This is basically a watered down version of Sid Meier’s Civilization. You have a city-state, and try to conquer the world. Surprisingly, religion and military vehicles seem very similar, by both shooting missle-like projectiles. The only peaceful way on this stage is by trading.
5. Space Stage
Ah, the best stage, right? Wrong. This stage is mostly mindless grinding for hardly any reward. You earn money by selling and trading spice. Yep, spice. You are pretty much the entire fleet, so until mid to late game, you have to cover all of the defence of your planets, and your allies planets too. The point of this stage is to go to the middle of the galaxy, and the end will shock you.
The game goes from fun, to pretty fun, and all the way to meaningless. Personally, it is an okay game, just overhyped and too watered down.
