I want to get a PS3 to play Resident Evil 5, but however I do have a few PS2 games i enjoy playing and no longer have a PS2. So I need to know which PS3’s actually will play those games. I don’t want to waste my money.

The 60GB is your best bet. Check the compatibility of your games with the link below.

There are 3 versions of the PS3 that play PS2 games.
    The 20GB (not in production)
    The 60GB (not in production)
The old 80GB (not in production)
The old 80 GB was the old version of the current 80GB PS3. It could play PS2 games. The most common way to tell is by looking at the USB ports. If there are 4, then it can play PS2 games. If there are 2, it can’t.

20GB (no longer in production) - yes
60GB (no longer in production) - yes
80GB with 4 USB slots (no longer in production, bundled with MGS4 or Motor Storm) - yes
40GB (no longer in production) - NO
    80GB with 2 USB slots - NO
    160GB - NO
any other up coming PS3’s - NO
    all PS3s play PS1 games.

Brian.. what are you talking about? You read that link yourself and learn more.
Sony has discontinued making PS2 compatible PS3s. Unless you wanted pre-owned PS3, look for any 60GB or 80GB with model no CECHE01. The current 80 and 160GB are not backwards compatible with PS2.

Any PS3 is about 98% compatible with all ps2 games. So you may have 1 or 2 games that don’t work, but almost all of them should. You may also check for compatibility for each of your ps2 games HERE –> http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus
