Why Do I Feel Like About To Throw Up When Playing Certain Video Games?

by GamePlay on October 2, 2009

Video games such as Half Life, Halo, Doom3, or Call of Duty make me feel like throwing up after playing for about 15 to 20 minutes. I think that the reason is that “looking” through the character’s eyes moving around in the video games makes me feel this way. Do you have similar experiences? How do you adjust so that you don’t feel like throwing up anymore when playing these kinds of games?

I have quite a few friends that experience that feeling of nausea/giddyness when playing FPS games. I believe it’s the same reason you get giddy when you look at objects through the side windows of a car that’s moving quickly along a road.
I don’t think there’s a way for you to ‘adjust’ to this kind of thing. I’ve heard from one of my friends that he fixes this problem by taking breaks every 20 minutes or so of playing any one FPS game. He doesn’t experience the feeling of throwing up when he plays 3rd-person perspective games and other genres, though.
So, just take minute breaks in between your time playing on the computer/console! There’s always the ‘Pause’ button, no? :)

this sounds like a verry unfortunate case of motion sickness. if you are out to correct the problem i recomend you stop playing fps style games. unfortunate but it might be for the best
