Some games give you abilities to do the imposible or just things you dream about doing. So of course you are going to be addicted! For example: Who doesn’t what to be invisible/ fly or walk through walls?
Also they can help to release anger. Somtimes it’s the exact opposite though.
Plus they can give you a sense of accomplishment. I know everytime i’d beat a game i’d be like oh yea who’s good?

Because when you achieve something, you want to continue. If you level up in a game, it makes you want to level up more so you can do more things.

Because it’s fun and your body releases dopamine so your brain wants more and more dopamine to be released. Then it consciously or unconsciously will make you want to play so you can release more dopamine into your system.

i was addicted to a game called unreal tournament. Of course I’d never admitt to being addicted, just a casual gamer. But when I realised I was, I knew I had to quit cold turkey. If you’re addicted, all you have to do is realise it, get someone to hide the game and then try playing games that aren’t online and that have a limited gameplay. Like n64 games like super mario or some cheesy mario game or football game that you’ll get bored of pretty quickly and play a few of them to satisfy gaming needs… and you will be so bored of games you won’t want to go near any. You’ll obviously relapse after a few months or so… but when you go back to the game, you’ll be less skilled and there will be fewer people so that helped me to stop altogether and it has been about 6-7 months. Also, what helps is to get real life hobbies. Like I started to play the guitar in the time that i’d spend playing games. I remember my mum saying if you played guitar as much as you played games you’d be amazing. All I can say is, I improved dramatically since I stopped playing. I do other stuff aswell.
To answer your question, games are addictive because of the multiplayer feature and as some guy said, because you can play against real people that think differently each time. It’s like a decorated game of chess. At the beginning of the game, everyone technically has the same chance of winning and chess gets boring quickly where as video games take people into a new fantasy that they wish was reality and exploit the fact that they feel this. Most games don’t require much thought.. or require thought at first but become mindless. So, when you are playing, your mind doesn’t get tired but you have to think a little bit to counteract the other person. There is a lot of skill also and it’s time consuming to try and aim for those “headshots” or whatever.
Basically, I have a competitive attitude and I wanted to play against people that have the same attitude and want to be the best at their personal fantasies. I guess people that don’t have any fantasies because they are enjoying real life too much don’t get addicted. People of a less competitve nature also don’t get addicted. It’s not that big a deal amongst many, but it is quite serious for some.

Its probably because our brains like to complete things. Like if you have a puzzle and you want to finish it. Addicting huh? Video games can be a lot the same to that.

well, its not that hard. i mean, you get certain games that never really end… like WoW and certian multipalyer aspects of games. Every game that you play can be on the same map with the same weapons but ur opponents are always going to act in some way different. Its just that people are getting in a mind set that game life is more satisfying than real life.. sad.. and that is y america is a fatfest.. lol. People are almost hiding from reality in these games, then they get consumed…
