Why Is It That Dvds And Video Games Have Region Codes?

by GamePlay on November 1, 2009

you can only play them in whatever country you bought them in. why have they made it like this? what if you move to another country?
there are some DVDs that you can play in all regions (i don’t know about video games), so how come they don’t make all of them playable in all regions?

There are several reasons. One is that it allows the companies to control release dates. Another is that it allows higher prices in some areas than others. Content is another reason, they can edit the content, such as just kissing, so it doesn’t upset or insult the people of certain areas.
It’s all about control and money.
