720p would look better than 480p/i, but not as good as 1080p. Basically, it would look very good, but could still look better.
As for it’s comparison with 1080i, it really depends on whether or not you notice the interlacing going on. If your eyes notice the interlacing lines, then 720p will be more clear than 1080i.
You will have to buy a separate cable to use 720p though. Either a component cable (Red, Green, Blue - video/White, Red - audio) or an HDMI cable.
There wouldn’t be much difference between the two unless you plan to use 1080p later, which most TVs don’t support over component. Of course, if your TV lacks one or the other, then you obviously need to get the one you can use.

I’ve got a 720p TV and it looks fine to me, when I play call of duty 4 on other peoples TV that are 1080p it’s the little details that change I reckon, like the sharpness of grass and stuff like that. Other than that it looks fine, and most games aren’t 1080p yet, but they will be in the near future.

It’s 1080p they reccomend for PS3, but so few games use 1080p. Your 720p should be good. But to get the full 720p picture, you need an HDMI cable
