Probably, but I agree that it will be a modest drop. Sony look to be adopting a strategey of upgrade, keeping price at a constant.
A lot depends on sales volume over the Christmas period, I would not have thought a drop before Christmas is likely at all. Why not? Sony are a Japanese company, so ultimately will measure themselves in Yen (not sure if this is the case they may account in US dollars). The Yen is at an extremely high value at the moment. This means that the $ or £ that we buy the PS3 with will actually not buy as many Yen as they used to, so Sony will feel the pinch in terms of revenue, simply because of a strong currency. Conversley component prices are relatively cheaper, as I would imagine that the systems themselves are made outside of Japan, however the systems being sold today and in the immediate future were probably made with component prices negotiated many months ago when the yen was not as strong!
Of course thy could have hedged all this currency risk and it’s a totally academic argument and also assumes that they are not already making significant margins on each unit sold.
So who know… Sony?
No. The new ps3 80gb is already at a price, yes I know it has less things than the old 80gb well just in usb slots, backwards capability, and no sd card slots. But it is still a very good game system. Beside with all the technology they are pumping into it you are actually luck they are selling it for how much they are much less a price drop. Blu-ray players are $1000 bucks much less you getting one that can play games for $400.

i would assume so. they keep saying they wont have one before christmas, but i dont know, i think theyre lying, and gonna release a nice price drop soon.

No Sony announced that the p3 wont be getting price drops the Christmas because they’re happy with the price it has right now
Joey
well.. technically yes… because it will eventually get a price drop… and it would have to come some time after Christmas.
